The film captures perfectly the essential bond between any father and son, which is the son's feeling that he will never be good enough in his father's eyes. Despite the film's obligatory but unnecessary subplot involving the son's attempts to find love, it is a realistic and humanistic work which carries the warning that the inability to resolve family relationships will result in your own distance and coldness.
..in short, you end up like Colin Firth.
