Review of And When Did You Last See Your Father? (2007) by Monsieur R — 27 Jul 2010
A father and son film. It could have been a father and daughter as well. Its about tiny slivers of time and how each grain of time passes imperceptively. Until it comes crashing down on you at your parent's passing.
The young actor Matthew Beard is just great. Wonderfully portraying the awkwardness of youth, Beard would make a great young George Harrison in a film sure to come about the youngest Beatle.
As for this film? Well, its typically not for anyone under 30. If you don't have a dear old aunt or uncle that passed away in your presence, you most likely will not relate to this film, nor should you.
This is mature (not a put down) subject matter and believe me, not for the throw bombs, excitement crowd that fills our theatres. Not one special effects moment in this one.
If you ever lost a dad or a mom or a dear person, or are facing the prospect OR just plain like thoughtful films, this could be a film for you.
