Review of An Affair to Remember (1957) by Stephanie F — 03 Jan 2010
Of course the leads are great, but then again Cary Grant is playing a manwhore engaged to another woman while he is also actively pursuing Deborah Kerr. That's not romantic, it's skeevy. Naturally, their relationship turns out to be "real", and they are in love.
Grant's implied past of womanizing undermines the movie's attempt to make me feel much of anything other than fleeting interest at the swelling string music. Basically, the thin plot is a female fantasy/delusion of grandeur.
