Review of Amour (2012) by Filip N — 13 Dec 2013
Although terribly hard to watch, what I felt was the most important thing about this movie was that the husband's love for his wife is expressed in his final sacrifice for her. In this time, doing such a thing leaves him open to extreme consequences or at least facing the rest of his life on the run and away from home and friends, not a good option at 80 something.
This movie is a good argument that we must come up with some way to allow people to choose an option while they are still mentally competent that would allow them to have doctor assisted suicide in cases where they have pre-chosen that option.
Why put family and spouses in such a dilemma. Any pet owner who does not have an ailing pet in pain and misery put to sleep is accused of cruelty. Why do we not do for our beloved humans what we do for our beloved pets? If a person wants doctor assisted suicide in a case such as this, or even in the case of a younger person who is in such circumstances, they should be allowed to choose.
