Review of Amour (2012) by Ghostburger — 11 Mar 2019
Easily a contender for the best film of the decade, or hell, this century. This film is the quintessential exploration of the deepest part of the human experience: its end. Almost everyone can relate to this film, as they may have either experienced this situation themselves or been a witness of it.
I remember witnessing a similar situation between my father and grandmother, and I was too young to understand the weight of the situation at the time, but regardless, this film was deeply moving for me.
Emmanuelle Riva earned a much deserved Oscar nomination for her masterful performance, and Jean-Louis Trintignant's work here is also astounding. Needless to say, the film excels on all technical bases, as this is a Michael Haneke production, and the cinematography and use of symbolism is absolutely beautiful and poetic.
But more importantly, this is a wildly powerful and compassionate story that needs to be seen by all. I can easily call this film a masterpiece.
