Review of Amarcord (1973) by Sabra E — 16 Nov 2010
Absolutely enchanting, this movie is simply a string of scenes you'll always remember, from a man suddenly up in a tree screaming for a woman, to the entire village heading out to sea in row boats to wait for something, or the Breasts that give a young boy a brain fever, it's all unforgettable.
Not so much possessed of an over-arching narrative, but consisting of interwoven tableaux, on first sight Amarcord could just be a carefree sentimental reminiscence on Fellini's youth, but underneath that surface lurks the ghost of fascism and the lampooning of Mussolinian Italy.
