Review of Amadeus (1984) by James K — 09 Jul 2011
I think I'm in a unique position to review this as I'm one of apparently very few people who never saw the film in the 1980s. The story, despite the fact its almost completely apocryphal, is serviceable, but the Direction is utterly unexceptional and the performances, particularly those of Elizabeth Berridge, Jeffrey Jones and even Tom Hulce, are embarassing.
The only saving grace is F. Murray Abraham, but its as though he's doing court-ordered community service with a take-all-commers community theater. What a bland film.
