Review of Amadeus (1984) by Mister O — 11 Mar 2018
How does one capture the nature of a genius? Amadeus wisely avoids that narrative pitfall and instead shows us the tale of perhaps the world's greatest composer through the eyes of SAlieri, a jealous workman-like musician who curses the god he pledged to serve through music for giving him the ability to recognize the genius before him, but not possess it.
About as good as it gets when you're talking biography (though much of the film was based on conjecture and dramatic license more than documented fact) or period films this is essentially the piece de resistance.
