Review of Una (2017) by Akustik — 12 Jan 2018
It’s a little strange for me to read any reviews stating how "wonderful" and "artistic" this film is.... I didn’t get that. I found it to be incredibly boring and dull. SOOOO many looong shots of nothingness. I’m talking about no movement- not even from the actors. At one point, I thought my device had frozen– I had to check to make sure it was still playing. (It was). Yes... THAT boring and slow. There were a couple dozen scenes that could’ve easily been condensed down into more tolerable levels of nothingness, which would’ve cut the runtime in half. I found myself skipping through these sections at several different points. And I didn’t miss anything as a result. Maybe it’s just me, but I can only take SO MANY long stares with no dialogue or anything else happening before I lose interest. For example- if they’re going to show a scene of really long grass blowing in the wind, after about (what FEELS LIKE) two full minutes- I’m expecting SOMETHING to pop up out of that grass– or maybe a pan over to where I can faintly hear people talking and birds singing... something. Something...?!? ANYTHING...?!? Or really long and drawn-out shots of trees... I found myself wondering what type of trees they were instead of thinking about the story or the characters. I don’t think that’s what the filmmakers were aiming for, but I could be wrong. And the ending— well... no need to give a "spoiler alert" because there’s nothing to spoil.
Boring. Mind-numbingly boring.
