Review of All That Heaven Allows (1955) by Tristin M — 16 Dec 2008
The film shows the idiocy of rumors and gossip, the foolishness of social expectations, and the hypocrisy of people. The autumn and winter colors and the production design are incredibly exhilarating. Of course, the story and the setting are completely artificial and unrealistic but this is just the purest example of melodrama.
This film has also been an inspiration to other fine directors and to the great movies Ali: Fear Eats the Soul and Far From Heaven.
