Review of Agora (2009) by Mikael H — 08 Dec 2012
It's a mystery how to me how this great movie has just passed by in silence. This is an excellent drama, by all standards - both script, actors and director doing a great job. Strangely, it is also a drama in two acts, instead of three, which might throw some people off.
Two features deserve special mention: the relationship between Hypathia and Davus, which is really the heart of the movie, for me. Also, the juxtaposition of the daily political struggle in Alexandria with extreme zoom-outs to earth's atmosphere, which acts as an elegant counter-point to said earthly matters.
Warmly recommended.
