Review of Agora (2009) by Craig H — 19 Aug 2015
"There are more things that unite us than divide us" pretty much sums this film up. With the big dividing finger pointed at religion, or the Christianization of the Roman Empire to be more exact.
The film does a good job at showing how the social landscape changed so quickly back then but still felt a bit empty to me. Rachel Weisz saves this movie with her touching performance as an innocent teacher during one of the most religiously intolerant/violent ages on the planet, can this woman ever do wrong? Can't help but wonder what our world would be like today if Christianity hadn't almost completely destroyed early paganism from pre-Christian Europe.
