Review of Agora (2009) by Pablo G — 12 Aug 2014
This could have been a much better movie considering Alejandro Amenábar was at the helm and Rachel Weisz gives a solid performance, but ultimately there's something in it that fails to completely grasp most audiences.
I find no fault in its slightly hysterical portrayal of Christianity of the time, nor do I find fault in it trying to find a balance between romantic ideals and reality. I cannot put to words adequately what this movie is missing, but it's enough to make it worthwhile to watch only once or twice, especially as a date night movie.
