Review of After Hours (1985) by Steven P — 06 Feb 2011
I may have been born in 1992, but if the 1980s were really as exciting as their movies lead me to believe; than I would have loved to been born then.
After Hours is one of the foremost 1980s dark comedies; telling the tale of a man who's trying to find his way home after a long day at work. That's easier said than done; given all the strange predicaments that befall him at night. Everyone and everything seems like it's out to get him.
Although there are provisions today where a situation like this wouldn't happen (ATMs, cell phones, mass transit advances); it's the outright weirdness of the scenario; the creative execution and the sweet 1980s nostalgia that make After Hours one of my favorite comedies. It is a movie that is a rush of energy and pure piece of cinematic joy.
