Review of After Earth (2013) by Yash B — 25 Jul 2014
After hearing how this film was hailed as one of the worst of 2013, I didn't expect much out of it. Surprisingly though, there are enough positive elements that slightly outweighed the flaws. The film is thrilling at moments and the movie has a heartfelt family bonding element.
The entertainment factor is there and it is extremely better than the dreadful film that will not be mentioned. The biggest mistake is shoe horning Jaden Smith in this movie. The performance he gives in the movie is overacted and too exaggerated.
Also Will Smith feels out of place here as an emotional robot, super tough dad. The acting hurts the film and there are boring parts in there. However, the action scenes, the tension, and the nice theme makes the movie tolerable and so much better than anyone may be expecting.
