Review of Ae Fond Kiss... (2004) by Maral M — 26 Jun 2008
Fantastic! I'm deeply moved. This is reality ,and Ken Loach is a master in portraying social reality! What I love about Loach's work is that he takes you into the story, and you can see what is happening everyday, and no one dares talk about that! His honest approach to forbidden themes is really unique.
What we have here in Ae Fond Kiss... , is that with many people from the "third world" immigrating to European or North American countries, cultural conflict has always been one of the darkest and most painful facts that people, specially young ones have to face.
Trapped between two cultures, they must decide whether to obey their parents (culture, or religion... ), or choose to live their lives, which is definitely way harder, considering how they are treated in western communities,as They'll always be considered a foreigner, and a victim of racism.
