Review of Ae Fond Kiss... (2004) by Emma H — 12 Sep 2009
Ken Loach gets us thinking again about the problems of a mixed race and religion relationship, the pressure of employers, family and friends who can or at least can try to influence the decisions which should only normally be made by a couple themselves.
It is terrible but still the case that a Muslim family's situation in their society can be damaged if a child becomes involved in a mixed race relationship. One feels for Carim, also for Roisin, however I find her character very self-centred, not really trying to understand the position her boyfriend finds himself in and the problems he is bringing to his family and himself, by deciding to be with her.
