Review of Ae Fond Kiss... (2004) by Rachel B — 21 Jun 2009
A real humdinger!! Casim meets Rosin. He's a Glaswegian 'Pakkee', she's a Glaswegian Irish lass and mmmmmm the chemistry is ... well you just gotta rent the DVD and watch the juices fl ... and it's MA but reviews aren't supposed to be are they. Anyway, be brings a real glow to her very fair cheeks [of course he's too dark to really catch the, um, reciprocal details. But he's a good boy, with his accounting degree and his budding DJ/disco business; pity about the arranged marriage his devout parents are lining up with his cousin Jasmine, just about to be imported from Pakistan ["Land of the Pure" or some such]. Rosin ["Rosheen"] is a really cute, blond, smart, piano playing, music teacher at a Catholic school. Pity about the dyed in the wool Catholic Parish Priest who is [NOT] going to sign her Certificate of ... um, orthodoxy, purity of mind and absolute devotion to all tenets of the faith such as not living in sin, especially while still technically married to the man she left 'cause she shouldn'a married in the first place. The priest does a wonderful simulation of a rabid ... sorry, I mean devout, upholder of above mentioned all tenets. IOW a real bigoted SOB!
I think the acting is good and the movie is a sensitive but straight forward, effective and engrossing treatment of a really touchy subject. Well worth watching by any persons capable of thinking for themselves.
