Review of Adaptation. (2002) by Monica M — 20 Dec 2010
Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman have a way of taking a great idea and potentially great film and making it a little too uncomfortable for mainstream audiences. I can appreciate the good writing behind this and Being John Malkovich, but I must admit I have a hard time relating and sympathizing with the lead actors of both.
I have no problem with Nicholas Cage but when I see him in this movie he's just so awkward that it makes me uncomfortable to watch. same problem I had with Being John Malkovich, the lead is just too creepy and uncomfortable.
It may sound shallow but I like when actors are confident and calm, I know not everyone in real life is like that and I have to give credit to the film for portraying a real person and not a Hollywood cardboard cut-out, but what can I say? It just weirds me out and turns me off of the film, which is a real shame because this movie is really good despite my complaints.
