Review of Adaptation. (2002) by Peter F — 07 May 2012
I see to my right somebody wrote in their review "refreshing." That's exactly what this movie was for me. The characters' struggles rang true for what I'm sort of going through right now. A pervading self-consciousness and a lack of passion. Absolutely loved what "Kaufman's" brother says to him while they're hiding from Meryl Streep and the other guy. Can't remember the exact words but it's something to do with "It's my love, not hers." Dang, that was a pretty powerful moment. And then on top of these characters' personal battles becoming my own battles is the amusingness of the story itself. I don't know how Kaufman does it, and it's hard to explain just what he does, but he always makes your mind bend and examine itself then not realize it's being examined at all and then bend some more. And I loved how it showed "Kaufman" on the set of Being John Malkovich. I thought it was hilarious that some of that was included in this movie. Gosh, so many things that could be discussed, but I hope for now it serves to say I liked this movie a lot, and like my friend on the right said, it was "very refreshing.".
Watched on May 8, 2012 on Netflix on the upstairs T.V. at the Aberdeen home at around 11:00 P.M.
