Review of Absentia (2011) by Michael H — 15 Aug 2014
The soundtrack is the first thing that comes to mind. They seemed to only have the budget for one sombre slow funeral track, which ran repeatedly throughout.
It's a competent albeit limited horror movie, that stands firmly lukewarm throughout. A lot of people were disappointed by this movie when it was released. You really had to have watch the trailer beforehand, which conforms to traditional horror movie tropes. This movie is nothing like the trailer.
It's more of a meditation on loss of loved ones, which is a horror movie coincidentally, rather than honing in on the theme of reality a la Nightmare on Elm Street.
I liked Oculus , but this one seems undercut of it's real potential.
