Review of Absentia (2011) by Sgt. C — 30 Oct 2014
(16%).
A small budget horror drama with small touches of high (for a horror movie) budget gloss. As this does lean slightly more towards being a drama, horror fans will likely be split between whether or not they like what they see, but really this is a mixed bag at best. On a plus side it is at least partly well put together, it at lest tried to be different or interesting, and the writing/performances are acceptable for this type of movie. But on the negative side the plot doesn't really work out as well as the makers probably wanted or hoped for, and because the scares are nothing new at all this will struggle to scare most. And thanks to the almost constantly repeating (and cheap sounding) tune of the main score this becomes more annoying to watch than say mood building or even frightening. Not really terrible watch as they at least tried with this one, but this is still not something anyone really needs to see besides maybe big horror movie fans.
