Review of Absence of Malice (1981) by Frank M — 16 Mar 2008
A good story about a man sticking it to the government. Two of my favorite elements of the movie, aside from Paul Newman, are Michael Gallagher (Paul Newman) and Meghan Carter' (Sally Fields) relationship, and Wilfred Brimley's performance of Assistant U.
S. Attorney General James A. Wells. The relationship between Gallagher and Carter captures the love-hate relationship between the people and the news. Brimley's performance, aside from being the highlight of the film, has some great lines such as, "I don't have the power to stop you, but that don't make it right.
" Wells seems to be the one good man from the government.
