Review of Ab-normal Beauty (2004) by Steve G — 04 Jan 2008
During the first half of the film, Race Wong, in response to childhood abuse and her mother's neglect, develops an obsession with death. Sure, it's weird and it's portrayed with a lot of style, but it isn't very scary, and it doesn't leave much for Rosanne Wong, her on-screen lover, real-life sister and the other half of Cantopop group 2R, to do. Basically, the Wong sisters look oh so cute exploring some bizarre territory, but not much actually happens.
Then, in the film's second half, all heck breaks loose in a plot twist involving snuff films that, frankly, I didn't need to see.
