Review of August Underground's Mordum (2003) by Steve D — 28 Mar 2014
This hits the bottom of the barrel as far as found footage horror films go. This makes Harmony Korine's Trash Humpers look like a Disney film. Mordum is vile, pointless and worst of all, really irritating.
BBFC banned it (probably because of the bathtub scene) so sadly I had to watch it. The truth is I really wanted to turn it off or fast forward because the characters are so unbelievably irritating to spend time with.
They are about as brain-dead as the filmmaking team that put this together. Not an ounce of innovation; instead just one "shocking" and gruesome image after another. Truthfully, I wasn't all that disturbed because it just felt like a bunch of amateur, filmmaking wannabees, trying so hard to be shocking.
I suppose all that can be said about it is, sadly there are nut-jobs like this out there. I just wish the filmmakers put a little more of an effort into story or suspense and not just torture. Instead of just trying to successfully disgust us.
