Review of A Passage to India (1984) by Adrian W — 03 Jul 2008
This is a decent attempt at a good and important book. I am a bit biased, because I have read the book first and as so often, the movie can not communicate the message with the same depth.
The movie manages the racism part fairly well, although the book is much more disgusting that way. Where the movie has issues though, is at the end. The end of the book (after the trial) is probably the more important part and in the movie it feels rushed and incomplete. I will admit, that I would be difficult to communicate that part of the message in a film...without adding yet another hour to the duration.
