Opulent epic that could only be directed by David Lean (Oscar-nominated for directing and co-writing the script). "A Passage to India" is meticulous and methodically paced with the performers sustaining the interest of the audience.

Alec Guinness makes a cameo appearance and James Fox just about steals the show from the leading ladies. Not as good as Lean's masterpieces ("The Bridge on the River Kwai", "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Dr.

Zhivago"), but still a more than adequate addition to the cinema. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
