Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988) by Gurahk W — 18 Aug 2011
A NIghtmare on Elm Street 4 is when the series really did a 180 degree turn and made Freddy more comical and campy then menacing but this Nightmare still delivers. Here, Kristin(Tuesday Knight, replacing Patricia Arquette)brings Alice, a shy daydreamer into her nightmares and gives her her power before succumbing to Freddy.
Slowly Alice starts to take on the characteristics of each teen Freddy murders until it's a showdown between Freddy and Alice. Part 4 has the wildest imagination in the series (a girl turns into a roach, Alice being sucked into a movie, etc.
) Directed by Renny Harlin who hit the big times with Die Hard 2 and Deep Blue Sea, keeps the pace going and makes you forget how absurd the film really is plus it's well casted especially Lisa Wilcox as Alice as you watch her transforming from a mousy introverted girl to a tough, no nonsense fighting machine to give Freddy a run for his money.
Sure it's funny and no real scares but this one could have been a lot worst with a less talented cast and director. My only fault with the film is that horrible 'Freddy Rap" by the Fat Boys, atricous.
