Review of A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014) by J Corey S — 10 May 2015
A freakishly cool and unique horror film. You've never seen a Vampire film like this one. Shot in gorgeous black-and-white with excellent and compelling actors. At times, absurdly funny, other times strangely moving, but always artistic and captivating.
I'm sure this film has caused great controversy in Iran. Its feminist theme, creepy imagery, intense sound design and slick filmmaking style make it unforgettable. I love our skateboarding heroine and the love-struck, ecstasy-taking, cat-loving companion she meets.
The score is superb and it's the kind of film that one could watch a dozen times. It makes a great double-bill with Only Lovers Left Alive.
