Review of A Dangerous Method (2011) by Christine T — 17 Oct 2014
In one of his most straightforward films, David Cronenberg portrays the love affair between psychoanalyst Carl Jung and Sabina Spirelrein, a patient of Jung's who became a psychoanalyst in her own right, with great performances from Michael Fassbender and Keira Knightley.
Viggo Mortensen also stars here as Sigmund Freud, and he and Fassbender do a great job of showing the collaboration turned rivalry between the two men. At times, it feels more of an HBO movie than a cinematic experience, but the great performances and production design help it ultimately rise above made-for-TV quality.
8/10.
