Review of A Dangerous Method (2011) by Logan A — 09 Apr 2018
Exceptionally filmed and masterfully acted. David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Methrod is a simultaneously brilliant and frustrating. The engaging true story and the characters that inhabit it are wonderfully brought to life by Fassbender, Mortensen, and Knightley.
Cassell and Gadon are also great in smaller roles but those three utterly grab you with their enthralling portrayals of complex real subjects. Cronenberg's direction while not overtly flashy, is workmanlike in its swift effectiveness.
The film is ultimately let down by it's jumpy narrative structure. Some of the transitions are jarring and ultimately the edit and 90 minute runtime leave the viewer a bit cold. This is a story that would have benefited from a more focused, fleshed out narrative.
However, the film ultimately comes out as a solid addition to Cronenberg's later day filmography. It is absolutely worth seeing.
