Review of 8 Mile (2002) by Jill R — 19 Feb 2015
Solid story telling, believable characters, and well paced filming. Its loosely autobiographical on the life of Marshall Mathers, aka Rap artist Eminem, and he keeps the movie on-track by not over- or under-playing himself.
He works thru his frustrations and setbacks, and maintains a sense of truth and authenticity throughout -.
A wise choice that paid off at the box office.
I fully enjoyed this movie with all of the now legendary real life elements - baby mama drama, poor upbringing, w a dysfunctional mother with her macho wannabe bfs, yet also his loyal friends- tho flawed -still willing to help him find a 9-5 and encourage his underground rap battle performing.
And, I still love the theme song for 8 Mile - very inspirational and motivating for me, tho I dont seek out rap music, in general.
Not perfect, but a solid, commendable effort.
4 out of 5.
