Review of 8 Mile (2002) by Liamexe — 14 Jul 2022
The restrictions of the fictitious celebrity biopic are too great for "8 Mile." There were countless films about young musicians and their families, early promoters, first big breaks, etc., most of them with a wider scope and greater level of specificity than this one.
This movie simply follows its hero until the moment he turns to leave, proving his star potential. His character, and in particular his stillness, are the centre of attention. The most significant moments occur when Eminem holds a microphone in his hand and waits in silence for inspiration to strike.
In this film, Eminem expresses total imminence and pure potential with a new degree of conviction and clarity.
