Review of 28 Weeks Later (2007) by Sam W — 16 Nov 2012
It was okay. I was honestly expecting better after 28 Days Later, but it had some interesting ideas. The idea that some people are immune to the virus was cool, how it got introduced into society again was also neat, and the whole scene with the night vision was scary as hell! However, it does have many flaws.
For instance, how DID the boy's infected dad get inside the containment area? Wouldn't they have noticed him? It was never explained, and was the thing that bugged me the most about the film. Also, do we really have to show them actually running from an explosion, poisonous gas, and gunfire? It just makes it look like a cliche action movie.
Also, I'm pretty sure you can't just cover your nose with some cloth to escape the poisonous gas. That's why you need gas masks. Finally, of all the abandoned malls in the world, they HAVE to find the one where the boy's dad attacks them AGAIN.
This is so unlikely, it borders on ridiculous. Oh, and it sure takes the army a damn long time to locate the two kids when they go outside the borders in the beginning. I mean, they're right in the open guys.
I know it's a big city, but if you just scan it quickly and look for movement, you should be able to spot them no problem. Still a good film, but pretty disappointing.
