Review of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) by Jon P — 08 Jan 2015
A visual, visceral and metaphorical masterpiece, Stanley Kubrick's space epic is by far one of the most influential films of all time. Kubrick's classic holds the hallmarks of everything great to come in the near-future of Sci-Fi film, not to mention a score to end all scores, and visuals as groundbreaking as a worldwide earthquake.
The movie's beauty lies in its sensuous storytelling and sheer spectacle; 2001 is an experience as opposed to a film, but that doesn't mean that the screenplay's lacking. In fact, it's a glorious exercise in enigmatic minimalism. Apparently, Kubrick can do no wrong.
