Review of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) by Amanda C — 14 Jun 2015

This film contains some of, if not the best use of music ever. The epic opening sequence reflecting the vastness and epicness that is the film itself coupled with the Blue Danube to combine with the stunning visuals. Gorgeous cinematography in a wonderful wide screen, the whole film is like a meditation in space. There is a great use of camera angles to maintain interest between the sweeping space vistas and to give the contrast of the openness of space with the claustrophobic nature of the ships.

To truly appreciate 2001, however it needs to be seen on a big screen in 70mm. It's amazing how sharp and clear everything becomes. What was already a spectacular film becomes a spellbinding masterpiece that you cannot tear your eyes away from. Kubrick is one of the greats, and this just might be his greatest film.
