AFI 100 Greatest Films - #22: WOW. Just had the privilege of seeing this for the first time during the 50th anniversary release in the 70mm on an IMAX screen. This one had me mesmerized from the start, and maybe even from the overture, as the score could not have been more perfect, possibly the best scored movie I have ever seen. So many beautiful and visually appealing shots that took my breath away, and must have been revolutionary 50 years ago. The plot was also gripping from the start and I am still meditating on many of the impressions I experienced while viewing. Part of me is glad I had not seen this masterpiece until now as many of the films I love now appear somewhat derivative and far less original or unique.
