Review of 20 Feet from Stardom (2013) by Pat O — 14 Jul 2013
Being a singer is a lot like being a pro athlete in terms of the role played by skill, dedication, perseverance, sacrifice and sometimes even luck in getting to the top. All were on display in this movie.
Some memorable anecdotes, Clayton's vocals on Gimme Shelter sung at 3AM, her having been woken from a deep sleep and brought to the studio pregnant, in pyjamas and hair curlers; the rip off of one of Darlene Love's songs, released under the name of a group that heard the song for the first time, on the radio while they were on tour, and the amazing voice of personal fave Lisa Fisher.
"20 feet" was a refreshing change from the run of the mill releases coming out of Hollywood this summer.
