Review of Harlan County U.S.A. (1977) by Nate C — 17 Jan 2008
One of the best films I have ever seen. Now, I am definitely not a Documentary guy. Men, understand this is not a movie you will want to see if you watch movies mainly to gaze upon beautiful women; they are absent from this film.
The viewer gets a realist look at the lifes of miners and their wives. It is amazing how corrupt and callous the Power and Coal Companies were. One thinks this couldn't be possible in a place like America.
The conditions these Harlan County natives faced were in-line with those of the European Industrial Revolution. The United Mine Workers of America certainly won a big victory themselves. A great history lesson.
