Review of Zulu Dawn (1979) by Josh J — 20 Jul 2009
If you compare this to the 1964 film 'Zulu', you realize that its a good compliment, but only okay as a standalone movie.
The film is much slower at first than the original, showing a group of British soldiers on the offensive rather than the defensive, at least at first.
Normally you'd think this would make it more exciting, or at least equal to the first. But while I was stunned with the final charge in the 1964 film; the scene in this film with the flag being tossed into the river doesn't do it for me.
All in all, Zulu Dawn is a fantastic prequel, but only 'okay' as a standalone film. If you didn't like the original Zulu, you wont like this film. But if you're a fan of the original, this is a wonderful compliment.
