Review of Zulu (1964) by James O — 10 Apr 2011
By all accounts The Battle of Rorke's Drift was an epic affair and it made for an epic film here. In this day and age it's difficult to condone colonialism but you can't help but feel admiration for the real-life British soldiers who somehow maintained their station when the odds seemed stacked firmly against them.
The film's notable as being Michael Caine's first 'starring' role; he plays second fiddle to Stanley Baker and is also listed below three other cast members on the original poster, but he's excellent in this, given plenty of screentime and delivering the stand-out performance, and was clearly a star in the making.
