"Zodiac" is David Fincher's finest film. Tightly focused, propelled by intelligent dialogue and attention to investigative details rather than action, with a top-notch cast-- particularly Mark Ruffalo, whose slightly tinny vocal inflections echo the real-life David Toschi without feeling like a caricature, and Jake Gylanhaal in the finest performance of his career, walking a fine line between likable and obsessively driven.
Gripping, meticulously crafted, masterfully layered procedural drama.
