Review of Zatoichi: Darkness Is His Ally (1989) by Anthony V — 24 Jun 2008
What a find! I tried this after seeing Beat Takeshi's recent continuation of the series, and I have to say this exceded all my expectations. Funny, stylish, and very memorable, this movie had it all--gore, girls and gangs.
Zatoichi is the Japanese Bond, and in my humble opinion, he's simply more kick-ass than the tux-wearing martini-sipper. Give it a try, even if you're new to the genre.
