Review of Zatoichi: Darkness Is His Ally (1989) by Loïc F — 11 Aug 2008
A stylish and spectacularly violent samurai flick with quite a bit of comedy to the side as well. Basically three stories interweave as two ronin and two geisha enter in the same gang-ridden village. It has some obvious similarities with Yojimbo.
The violence and gore is CGI animated, but it's not as tactless as I'd thought it would be, and in the end a little "fakeness" works well too.
