Review of Zatoichi: Darkness Is His Ally (1989) by Paul B — 18 Nov 2007
The film most of us are referring to was NOT made in 1989, it was made in 2003, written, directed by and starring Takeshi "Beat" Kitano. Zatoichi is a popular character in Japan and several movies and I believe a TV series have been made about the character.
I haven't seen any of the others, but Beat Takeshi's story is awesome. Well written, beautifully directed, great acting, and special effects that actually add to the film for a change (Hollywood take note).
