Review of Z (1969) by Alex K — 31 Jul 2009
From the opening, you can tell that this film is different from the typical film of the late sixties. It has such rampant energy and is so politically charged that it still resonates as unique to this day.
Hard to believe it was made in 1969. It starts off interesting, but as events transpire, a world of murder, underground extremists, and corrupt government officials are thrown upon the audience, completely engrossing you in a tale that's both incredibly exciting and politically relevant, or at least it was back then.
One of the greatest things about the film is the terrific message, and the irony of the ending. Z remains as a symbol against oppression, as the film points out. But the best thing is that almost everything is true.
Most of it actually happened. This kind of movie is hard to find even today, and is not to be missed by anyone.
