Review of Z (1969) by Michael T — 14 Aug 2011
Though the plot took me sometime to put together (I was expecting the film to take place in Greece, but the language was in French, and the only nationality ever mentioned was Russian), I soon came to realize Z was a revolutionary film.
A political activist is assassinated, and the sole investigator into the matter seems to be the only one concerned about bringing true justice without any bias towards either side of the political matter.
Despite his ambition to act only in the name of the law, his superiors in the powerful courts themselves have no interest in giving a sentence that will disfavor their symbiotic control of the state with the military.
Z is a philosopher's work on the harsh reality of universally oppressive political power and it's upper hand over real justice.
