Review of Young Mr. Lincoln (1939) by Darryl J — 19 Oct 2008
Although a bit dated, and a little contrived...this film is worth seeing for its ability to humanize Abe Lincoln, and provide a warm portrayal of his small town values. I liked the cinematography, and of course the courtroom drama which shows his strength of character, and quick wit.
Henry Fonda deserves real credit for his ability to portray a young Abe Lincoln who has the ability to reason with the common man. A few things annoyed me, such as the cameos of Mary Todd, and Stephen Douglas.
...but it is undeniably charming....too cute by todays standards. But that was cinema back in the day I guess.
