Review of Young Mr. Lincoln (1939) by William R — 16 Nov 2008
I am aware that this is a fictionalized account on the early years of Abraham Lincoln, who is portrayed as bashful, inexperienced, but rigorous and humanistic lawyer. Despite the film being fictitious, it tells a compelling story and it is still an enjoyable movie.
Henry Fonda is perfect in the role of the young Abraham Lincoln, although he bears a little resemblence to the late admired and revered president. I liked the foreshadowing, especially the ending sequence, where Lincoln walks up a hill and symbolically steps forward into history, into greatness, into legend.
