Review of Young Mr. Lincoln (1939) by Steven L — 20 Jan 2009
A good performance by Henry Fonda as, well, young Abraham Lincoln is the best thing in an uneven movie. With just a little bit of make-up, he looks eerily like the 16th President. Unfortunately, the rest of the movie is so obviously fictionalized, and so hokey, that the film is extremely dated.
The plot is slightly intriguing, but the courtroom scenes are too over the top, and the finale revelation is ridiculous. I wish they could have at least tried for some amount of realism, instead of making what is essentially a puff-piece.
